Specialty glass / Project guidance

Laminated glass

Laminated glass combines glass layers with an interlayer that can retain fragments after breakage. Its suitability depends on the particular construction and application; different laminated products should not be treated as interchangeable.

Specify the required performance

Begin with the purpose of the panel: visibility, privacy, fragment retention or a documented performance objective. Glass layers, interlayer and overall thickness need to be selected together. A general request for laminated glass does not establish a security, acoustic or structural rating. Those objectives require supporting product and project information.

Review edges, supports and compatibility

The proposed fixing system must accommodate the selected assembly. Edge exposure, adjoining materials and the installation setting should be considered when defining it. For an existing installation, provide drawings or product records if available. Do not assume that a similarly sized laminated panel can replace another glass type without reviewing the complete arrangement.

Questions before
the next step.

Does laminated mean burglar-proof?

No. Security performance depends on a specifically designed and assessed product and assembly. This page makes no forced-entry rating or resistance guarantee.

Can laminated glass also be decorative?

Appearance options may be considered alongside the required construction. A decorative preference must not replace the technical specification for the application.
